The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following a formal screening process conducted during plenary.
The confirmation took place under the leadership of the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, who presided over the session in which lawmakers deliberated on Garo’s nomination.
His appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, which created a vacancy in the state’s executive structure.
Presenting the report of the ad hoc committee tasked with screening the nominee, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the committee, Muhammad Bello, explained that the process was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions.
He cited Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers a state House of Assembly to confirm a nominee for the office of Deputy Governor in the event of a vacancy.
According to Bello, the screening exercise was thorough and comprehensive, with Garo responding to a wide range of questions posed by lawmakers.
These covered his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and his vision for contributing to the administration of the state.
The committee also undertook a verification of his credentials as part of the process.
Lawmakers noted that Garo demonstrated a firm grasp of the responsibilities associated with the office of Deputy Governor.
He also outlined plans to support the policies and programmes of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, signalling readiness to work collaboratively in advancing the state’s development agenda.
Following the presentation of the committee’s findings, members of the Assembly unanimously adopted the report and approved Garo’s nomination, effectively confirming his appointment.
The development marks a significant step in restoring the full complement of the Kano State executive following the earlier resignation.
