The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has dismissed reports of mass defections and internal crisis within the party, insisting that it remains united and politically stronger ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, issued to DAILY POST on Sunday.
He described reports of recent resignations and defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as misleading and exaggerated.
The statement alleged that opposition elements and some disgruntled members were behind efforts to create the impression that the ruling party was losing strength in the state.
According to the government, the APC structure in Jigawa remains intact, while only a few notable figures have left the party, mostly over personal political interests and future electoral ambitions.
It added that the number of those who exited the party was insignificant when compared to the growing number of politicians and supporters joining the APC from rival parties.
The statement maintained that despite attempts to create tension through propaganda, the party remains confident of its electoral prospects in the state ahead of 2027.
According to the statement, “All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has received more than 66,000 members of opposition parties, mainly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
The state government attributed the wave of defections to growing public confidence in the administration of Governor Umar Namadi, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the expanding political influence of the APC across the state.
