All 13 passengers abducted along the Makurdi-Otukpo road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State have regained their freedom.

PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that the victims were rescued in the early hours of Sunday in what sources described as a coordinated effort by security operatives and other stakeholders.

The successful rescue has brought relief to residents and commuters who had expressed concerns over rising insecurity along the busy Makurdi-Otukpo axis.

The road, a major link within the state, has witnessed sporadic security challenges in recent times, heightening fears among travellers.

Local sources, who confirmed the development to Daily Post, described the victims’ safe return as a major breakthrough.

They noted that the rescue had restored a measure of confidence among residents who rely heavily on the route for daily activities.

As of the time of filing this report, official confirmation from security agencies was still being awaited.

The circumstances surrounding the abduction and the subsequent rescue remain unclear, with authorities yet to disclose operational details.

It could not be ascertained whether any arrests were made in connection with the incident or if ransom was paid to secure the victims’ release.

The State command of the Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue any official statement regarding the development as of the time of filing this report. The silence from security agencies has left several questions unanswered, even as residents continue to celebrate the safe return of the victims.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the abduction had earlier heightened anxiety in the area, with many calling for increased security presence along the Makurdi-Otukpo corridor.
