The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Uyo Operations Office, on 16th April 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance disaster management initiatives in the state.
The NEMA delegation, led by the Head of Operations, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, was received by the State Commandant, Commandant Geraldine S. Abetianbe, alongside other senior officers of the Corps. In her welcome remarks, the Commandant commended NEMA for its proactive role in disaster management and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between both agencies.
During the engagement, Mrs. Aisueni expressed appreciation for the continued support of the NSCDC as a critical stakeholder in emergency management. She highlighted the need to deepen partnerships, particularly in the areas of capacity building and disaster risk reduction, to enhance effective service delivery.
She further underscored the importance of joint sensitization campaigns on flood risk awareness and preparedness, noting that the NSCDC’s strong grassroots presence makes it a vital partner in disaster mitigation and timely emergency response. She also advocated for continuous strategic engagement through regular communication to ensure seamless coordination during emergencies.
In response, the NSCDC Command welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with NEMA. The Command emphasized the close link between security and disaster management, noting that proactive sensitization efforts would significantly reduce the impact of potential disasters across Akwa Ibom State.
