A legislative consultant and public policy analyst, Chibuzo Okereke, has claimed that the real ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is not the presidency.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Makinde officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
He also unveiled the Reset Nigeria Movement and a dedicated campaign website to drive nationwide mobilisation.
However, speaking on Friday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time,’ Okereke claimed that Makinde is under heavy political pressure.
He added that after the 2023 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost all senatorial seats in Oyo but retained the governorship.
Okereke pointed out that this is after the G5 arrangement that helped shape President Tinubu’s emergence.
“Well, I think first of all, it is within his democratic right to seek the office of the presidency. I mean, the qualifying credentials are there.
“But I think that strategically speaking, he is mobilising support to ensure there is momentum for a successor.
“If you look at this, it appears to be a strategic political hedging for him. I don’t really think that his push is more about himself getting to the presidency,” he said.
