AYODEJI Ismail of Radio Kwara Chapel has been re-elected as Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State chapter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ismail was returned unopposed at the election held on Wednesday at the SWAN Secretariat in Ilorin.

Speaking shortly after his inauguration conducted by Barrister Zarumi Mashood, Ismail pledged to consolidate on the gains recorded during his first tenure.

He said his administration would focus on strengthening the association while delivering measurable progress.

Ismail also called on stakeholders and sports enthusiasts in the state to support efforts aimed at improving the SWAN Secretariat.

According to him, the facility lacks basic amenities such as water and electricity, a development he said continues to hinder the association’s activities.

Meanwhile, a representative of the National Secretariat and South-West Vice President, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, commended the peaceful conduct of the election.

He said members in Kwara had demonstrated the spirit of harmony for which the state is known.

Ogunsakin urged the newly inaugurated executive to be inclusive in leadership and adhere strictly to the association’s statute.

He also advised disqualified aspirants to view the outcome as an opportunity for personal and professional development.

Similarly, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Ahmed Abdullateef, emphasised the need for continuous learning in journalism.

He said journalists must upgrade their skills to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.

Earlier, Chairman of the Kwara State Electoral Committee (SWANECO), Bunmi Adedoyin, outlined the processes that guided the election.

He said the committee strictly adhered to the provisions of the association’s statute to ensure a transparent and credible exercise.

Adedoyin, a former state chairman of SWAN, added that the sustained peace within the association was due to the solid foundation laid by previous leaders.

He urged the new executive to uphold established standards and avoid actions that could undermine the association’s stability.
