Troops Neutralise 24 Terrorists, Foil Kukareta Attack In Borno

Troops of Sector 2 under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 24 terrorists and successfully repelled a coordinated attack on Kukareta community in Borno State.

Sources disclosed to Zagagola Makama that the attack began around midnight and lasted until about 3:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, with troops engaging the insurgents in a prolonged firefight.

The soldiers were said to have decisively contained the assault, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers during the encounter.

Following the operation, troops recovered a significant cache of weapons from the fleeing terrorists, including:18 AK-47 rifles, Three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), Two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, Three Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, Two mortar tubes, Four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines.

A large quantity of 7.62mm belted ammunition used for anti-aircraft weapons was also recovered.

The sources added that two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the engagement and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The successful defence of Kukareta has been described as a major operational gain, highlighting the resilience and effectiveness of troops in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

The development comes amid intensified military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability across affected communities.
