Nenadi Usman, the Interim National Chairperson of the Labour Party (LP), has disclosed that it will be too late for the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to its fold ahead of the 2027 general election.
She made this known on Wednesday while appearing as a guest on the Arise Television programme, ‘Prime Time’.
According to Usman, once the LP closes the register 21 days before the primaries in accordance with the Electoral Act and submits the e-register, no one can register through the “back door”.
Speaking during the interview, she said: “It will be too late for Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party because if you look at the Electoral Act, at some point, we will close the register. You cannot come in once that is done.”

Usman, however, admitted that Obi made the party popular among Nigerians and took it to greater heights in 2023.
She also disclosed that the former Anambra State governor convinced her and several other prominent LP chieftains to join the party.
“Obi actually took the party to greater heights in 2023. There is nobody who can match that momentum as he did,” she said.
“He convinced me to join him in the Labour Party—and not just me, but also many people who are in the Labour Party today because we believe in equity and fair play,” she added.
