Isaacs Kekemeke, national vice-chairman (south-west) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared his intention to contest the Ondo south senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

Kekemeke announced his decision in a statement on Tuesday, saying the move followed pressure from party leaders, women and youth groups across the district.

Kekemeke said he consulted Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other party leaders before declaring his ambition.

His words: “This then is my declaration: After due consultation with the governor of the state, who is the leader of the party, and other leaders, I have decided to take up the gauntlet.

“I shall seek the ticket of our great party for the senatorial election and I shall, when I win, give to the senatorial district fair, fearless, quality and needs-driven representation.

“I shall be a voice for Ondo South, Ondo State, its government and its people, and I shall do so with humility and a high sense of duty and responsibility. My watchword shall be: the people first.”

Kekemeke said he was encouraged by the confidence reposed in him by stakeholders, while highlighting his political experience

The APC chieftain had served as minority leader in the old Ondo State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and Commissioner for Works, Lands and Housing.

Kekemeke also served as APC state chairman and currently holds the position of national vice-chairman (south-west).
