2027: PDP ready to take over Enugu State Lion Building – Senatorial Aspirant

Dr. Cosmas Agbo, an Aspirant of People Democratic Party (PDP) for Enugu North Senatorial District by-election to replace late Sen Okey Ezea of Labour Party who died on November 18, 2025, says PDP is ready and willing to take over Enugu State Lion Building in 2027 general elections.

Agbo disclosed this in Nsukka on Thursday while speaking with our correspondent, he said many residents are ready and willing to return Enugu State to PDP in 2027 general election through their votes.

“Residents say Enugu State since 1999 has remained a PDP State and will return the state to PDP in 2027 general elections,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that, Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State was elected in 2023 general elections on the platform of PDP but joined All Progressive Congress on October 14, 2025.

The aspirant explained that he was in the Senatorial race because he wants to continue the mission of late Sen Ezea to emancipate the district from political servitude.

“Agbo who was Deputy Director General of LP in Enugu North Senatorial District in 2023 general elections says he was among generals that ensured landslide victory for Ezea.

“Ezea’s mission in Senate was to
emacipate the district from political servitude through effective representation.

“I worked with him closely and know his mission for the district that is why I want to continue where he stopped,”he said.

Agbo who holds PhD in Political Science from University of Nigeria Nsukka, a former vice-chairman of Nsukka Local Govenment Council, Director-General of Sen Chukwuka Utazi Senatorial Campaign Organisation in 2019.

Agbo is also the Director General of Chief Chidi Obetta senatorial election campaign in 2023 who is currently representing Nsukka/Igboeze-South Federal Constituency in House of Representatives.

As well as a former Special Assistant to Ex- Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

“You can see I have the capacity and competencies as well as know the terrain because I have visted the 102 wards of the district not less than three times as campaign DGs and deputy Director-General.

“I am a home based, from Ibeku Opi in Nsukka LG, born, bread, brought up in Nsukka, I am 53 years, a bridge between not too young and not too old,” he said.
The aspirant said he had consuled widely across party lines before taking the decision to contest and got the blessings of so many stakeholders in the district.

“PDP conducted its national conventions on March 30th after court nullified the Ibadan convention of the other faction,” he said.

Agbo expressed optimism that PDP in Enugu North Senatorial District will elect him as candidate, even as a consensus candidate of the party.
” I have no doubt I will be elected PDP candidate that will win the by-election.

“Because PDP members as well as residents of the district know my good track records, capacity and competencies to give the district effective representation of elected.,”he said.

According to Agbo, INEC would in due time announce the date for the by-election as Senate had already declared Enugu North Senatorial District seat vacant,” he said
