Not long ago, Jonathan Majors was one of the most in demand actors in the world. He had just starred in Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Marvel Studios was positioning him as the centerpiece villain of its next cinematic era. Within the Black community especially, Majors was celebrated as a powerful new leading man breaking barriers at the highest level.
Then came the fall.
In 2023, Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment involving his former girlfriend. The conviction led to his removal from multiple projects, including his major Marvel role. Overnight, the rising superstar became a cautionary tale.
Now, Majors is attempting a comeback. But the vehicle for that return has people talking.
A CONTROVERSIAL PRODUCTION PARTNER
Majors is currently filming an untitled action movie in South Carolina backed by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. The film, directed by Kyle Rankin, is described as an action story inspired by 1980s and 1990s films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, centered on young people uniting against invading enemies.
The Daily Wire, co founded by Ben Shapiro, is a conservative media company that has expanded aggressively into film and television production. It has also previously given roles to actors such as Gina Carano and Armie Hammer after their respective controversies.
But the company’s reputation is sharply polarizing.
Many critics, particularly within the Black community, view The Daily Wire as a media platform that promotes rhetoric they consider hostile to Black interests and culture. Some activists and commentators have accused the outlet of amplifying narratives that they believe fuel racial division. Supporters of the company reject that characterization and describe it as a conservative alternative to mainstream media.
Still, it is fair to say the brand is deeply controversial and widely criticized in certain communities.
A RISKY REBUILD?
For Majors, aligning with a politically charged production company adds another layer to an already complicated comeback. While some argue that actors should not be judged for the politics of a studio backing their film, others question whether this move could further alienate portions of his former fan base.
Within online spaces, reactions have ranged from cautious optimism to outright disappointment.
Majors is also attached to star in the upcoming thriller Merciless, suggesting that he is working steadily to rebuild his professional standing.
WHAT ABOUT MEAGAN?
Majors recently married actress Meagan Good, who has stood by him publicly during his legal troubles. Neither has commented on the new project or the reaction surrounding it.
For an actor once positioned as the future face of a billion dollar franchise, this new chapter looks very different from the red carpet dominance many predicted.
Whether this film marks a full resurgence or a pivot into a new lane entirely remains to be seen.
