The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General WB Idris, has commended the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for its humanitarian interventions aimed at improving the welfare of military families and barracks communities.
Idris gave the commendation on Wednesday while receiving the Chairperson of NAOWA 8 Division Chapter, Mrs. Chinelo Koughna, and members of her delegation during a courtesy visit to the Theatre Headquarters.
He said the association’s empowerment and welfare programmes have continued to enhance the well-being of military families, noting that a stable home environment remains critical to boosting troops’ morale and operational effectiveness.
According to him, soldiers are better positioned to concentrate on their responsibilities when they are confident that their families are adequately cared for.
The Theatre Commander pledged the continued support of the Theatre Command for NAOWA’s activities, assuring the association of sustained collaboration to expand the impact of its humanitarian programmes.
Earlier, Mrs. Koughna commended Major General Idris for his leadership of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and his commitment to the welfare of troops deployed in the North-West theatre.
She explained that NAOWA is a non-governmental and humanitarian organisation committed to empowering women, youths and children through education, vocational training, entrepreneurship and community service.
According to her, the association, in line with the vision of the National President of NAOWA, Dr. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has trained hundreds of women and youths in fashion design, catering, hairdressing, digital skills, shoe and bag making, among other vocational trades.
She added that the association has also continued to support widows of fallen soldiers with food items, relief materials and start-up capital to promote financial independence, while extending humanitarian assistance through hospital visits and donations of medical equipment and relief materials.
The visit featured the presentation of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ register and a tour of the Wall of Heroes, a monument dedicated to personnel of Operation FANSAN YAMMA who lost their lives in the line of duty since the operation was established in 2024.
