Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his support for the Rivers All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Ogundu Chinda.
This is coming two months after the emergence of Chinda, an ally of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 Rivers governorship election following the withdrawal of Fubara from the race.
NPO Reported that Chinda secured the governorship ticket unopposed at the party’s primaries as Fubara joined the likes of Tonye Cole, and George Kelly who all withdrew from the race.
Speaking two months after the primaries, Fubara, in a video shared on X on Wednesday, declared his support for Chinda as well as the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and the Wike-led rainbow coalition.
‘I am supporting our rainbow coalition. President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is our president, and he is the one we are supporting. OK Chinda is the governorship candidate I am supporting. And everybody who believes in me will support.’ He said.
Fubara also urged his supporters to support Chinda’s candidacy as he affirmed his withdrawal from the race.
‘And for those of you who are saying we want to collect something before we run, there is nothing to collect. I am already in the family. Wherever you are, give your total support to that coalition.
‘We time of war is over. It is time of peace, and this peace is taking us to another level. What you lose here, you will gain in another place.
‘I want this to be clear to everybody. Don’t go anywhere and say you are supporting Fubara. My position is this and I’ve said it and clearly. I’m not party to any form that will bring disunity in this state. ‘ He siad.
