The Presidential Communications Team and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors have inspected key federal and state government projects in Imo State as part of a national media tour aimed at showcasing infrastructure development across the South-East.
In a statement by the Director of Media & Publicity, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, on Wednesday, July 15, the organisers said the tour, initiated by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors in collaboration with the Presidential Media Team, is designed to provide Nigerians with firsthand information on ongoing federal and state projects while promoting transparency, accountability and public awareness.
The delegation, comprising members of the Presidential Communications Team and over 40 senior journalists, visited several completed and ongoing projects, including the 56-kilometre Okigwe–Owerri Road, the 36-kilometre Owerri–Obowo–Umuahia Road, and the ongoing upgrade of the runway at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.
The team also inspected the upgraded Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, now designated as the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital.
Speaking during the inspection, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Mr. Declan Emelumba, described the projects as products of the strong collaboration between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government.
He said the expansion of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport would transform the facility into a major logistics and export hub, with eight modern warehouses expected to boost agricultural exports, commerce and investment across the South-East.
According to Emelumba, many of the projects were funded through the increased fiscal resources available to states following the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“This is Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education. This place used to be Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, previously owned by the state. Now, the Federal Government has upgraded it to a university less than a year ago,” he said.
“What is important here is not just that it has been upgraded. It’s a project that has been dear to every government that has ruled Imo State, but none was able to accomplish it because this is one of the oldest Federal Government Colleges of Education in Nigeria.”
He added, “Every government in Imo struggled to get it converted but couldn’t realise it until the coming of Governor Hope Uzodimma. And this was realised less than a year ago.”
Emelumba said the institution’s upgrade had created employment opportunities for residents and attracted intervention projects from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
He further noted that improved funding had enabled the Uzodimma administration to accelerate infrastructure development while complementing federal interventions in transportation, healthcare and education.
The commissioner said the projects reflected the shared development agenda of President Tinubu and Governor Uzodimma, adding that both administrations were working together to deliver sustainable development and improve the quality of life of Nigerians.
