Former Anambra State Governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba, has described the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, as a leader whose commitment to good governance, accountability and public service transcends political affiliation.
Etiaba, who served as governor after Obi’s first tenure in Anambra State, made the remarks in a goodwill message to mark Obi’s 65th birthday, praising his contributions to economic development, fiscal discipline and national progress.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Idris Zekeri Jnr, Etiaba said Obi’s enduring legacy continues to inspire both present and future generations.
She noted that Obi’s dedication to economic revitalisation, national development and inclusive growth, coupled with his commitment to accountability and empathy for ordinary Nigerians, has made him a model of transparent and responsible leadership.
“I am pleased to join countless Nigerians and admirers across the world in celebrating His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi,” she said.
“Beyond politics, Mr Peter Obi has become a powerful voice in conversations about diligence, integrity, competence and active civic engagement.”
Etiaba said Obi had consistently demonstrated that prudent management of public resources, strategic investment in education, healthcare and infrastructure, as well as the promotion of equal opportunities, could transform governance and deepen citizens’ participation in nation-building.
She described Obi’s 65th birthday as a milestone worthy of celebration, saying his life and achievements have continued to inspire millions of Nigerians, particularly young people, to pursue excellence, peaceful coexistence and meaningful contributions to national development.
“Attaining the age of 65 is a remarkable milestone, made even more significant by the inspiration it offers millions of Nigerians, especially the youth, to embrace excellence, peace and opportunities to contribute to Nigeria’s progress and unity,” she added.
Reflecting on Obi’s career in business, public service and national leadership, Etiaba said he has remained steadfast in his commitment to societal advancement.
