Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger has promised to build a 30,000-capacity international standard stadium in the state.
Bago stated this when Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), visited him on Thursday in Minna.
He said accommodation and other necessary facilities would be built around the stadium to make it of global standard.
The governor said when completed, the stadium would change the entire landscape of sports, especially football, in the state and also open up the state for tourism.
In his remarks, the NFF president applauded the governor for the initiative, saying it was apt considering the proximity of the state to the nation’s capital, Abuja.
He said the NFF would encourage and support the governor in making the stadium a reality.
Gusau said the NFF would ensure the national football team, the Super Eagles, played matches in the stadium when completed.
According to him, the name and image of Niger State can be projected to the world through such projects. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
