Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports that she filed for divorce while her husband is in detention, laughing off the suggestions.
She reacted to the online rumours in a trending post on her verified X handle, accompanied by laughing emojis.
Earlier, rumours circulated online that Uchechi had filed for divorce following years of alleged infidelity, financial neglect, and intense interference by Kanu’s family members. These factors, the reports claimed, had broken the marriage beyond repair.
It was further claimed she had endured over a decade of emotional strain caused by Kanu’s alleged promiscuous lifestyle and multiple extramarital affairs.

Furthermore, the reports alleged that prior to his high-profile arrest in 2015, Kanu was involved with a woman identified as Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu, whom he met in 2014.
The reports added that Chioma, who reportedly believed Kanu was single at the time, allegedly bankrolled him with thousands of dollars before walking away after discovering his pattern of lies and exploitation.
Reacting to the rumours, Uchechi noted that she had only just learnt about the reports claiming she had filed for divorce from her husband.
She wrote: “Good conscious evening, my blessed Biafrans. I have just learnt that I filed for Divorce while my husband is in prison 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre following a terrorism conviction linked to his agitation for Biafra.
