The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has commenced probe over video of one of its officers caught receiving bribe from detained traders.
As captured in a viral video shared on X on Thursday, the officer could be seen collecting cash from the traders arrested and detained in a Green Maria truck.
The traders arrested over alleged violation of environmental law made cash payment to the officer with some showing him their evidence of payment from their phones.
Reacting to the video, LAGESC, in a statement issued on its official X handle on Friday, confirmed the development as it identified the uniformed officer as one of its officials.
The agency disclosed that the officer had since been summoned and placed on operational leave pending internal investigations.
“The attention of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI has been drawn to a viral video making the rounds on social media, showing a KAI operative receiving cash bribes from detained environmental defaulters in one of our Green Maria trucks.
“The operative identified in the video has been summoned and placed on operational leave pending internal investigations to be undertaken by the Agency’s Provost and Administrative Department in line with extant rules of the Lagos State Civil Service.” The statement partly read.
Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) reiterated zero tolerance to indiscipline and all forms of corruption.
Olaniyi promised speedy investigation into the viral video with the agency assuring Lagosians of continuous and improved service delivery in alignment with the THEMES+ agenda of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to make Lagos habitable for business.
