Nigerian-born mental health nurse and social media star Bemi Orojuogun, widely known as London Bus Aunty, has appeared alongside the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, in a viral campaign promoting a new nationwide £2 bus fare cap in England.

The video, shared on Burnham’s Instagram page, quickly gained attention online as the Prime Minister announced that bus fares across England would be capped at £2 from October. Burnham, who previously introduced the scheme in Greater Manchester, said the policy would now benefit commuters nationwide.

“For too long, people said it wasn’t possible to reduce bus fares,” Burnham said in the video. “We proved it could be done in Greater Manchester, and today we’re taking the £2 fare cap national.”

Introducing Orojuogun, he joked that no one was better suited to support the announcement than “Bus Aunty” herself.

Laughing, Orojuogun replied, “Prime Minister, you’re stealing my job!”

Burnham responded with another joke, saying, “Cheaper bus fares, endorsed by Bus Aunty herself,” prompting Orojuogun to praise the initiative as “a fantastic idea.”

She later shared the video on her own social media pages, telling followers that the new fare cap would make public transport more affordable for millions of people across England. Burnham reacted to her post with a playful comment, writing, “Rebranding as Bus Andy.”

The collaboration marks another major milestone for Orojuogun, who has become one of the UK’s most recognisable online personalities.

Although she has lived in the UK for more than 30 years, she shot to fame in 2024 through short videos celebrating London’s famous red double-decker buses. Using creative camera angles and her cheerful personality, she built a loyal online following that now exceeds 200,000 followers on TikTok and more than 20,000 on Instagram.

Her growing popularity has attracted partnerships with major brands and organisations, including Transport for London, Burberry, JBL Audio UK, Jacquemus, City Sightseeing and London Mayor Sadiq Khan during the capital’s zero-emission bus campaign.

Earlier this year, she was also nominated for Video of the Year at the TikTok UK Awards, further cementing her place among the platform’s most influential Nigerian creators abroad.

From filming passing buses as a hobby to appearing beside the UK Prime Minister in a national campaign, Orojuogun’s journey highlights the power of social media creativity. Her success has inspired many Nigerians at home and abroad, proving that a simple passion, combined with consistency and authenticity, can grow into global recognition.
