The leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservatives Party, Kemi Badenoch, has faulted the bus fare reduction by the new UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.
NPO earlier Reported Burnham’s announcement of a drop in bus fare across the nation to £2.
The announcement came barely two days after taking over the N10 Downing Street following the resignation of Keir Starmer.
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Badenoch labelled Burnham’s introduced interventions, including the bus fare reduction, as small ambitions.
She held that cost of living largely remain expensive in Britain.
‘I’m sorry. But by going by what he has announced so far, Andy Burnham’s ambition for Britain are too small. Big problems need bigger long-term solution.
‘Bus fare is expensive because fuel is expensive. Energy is expensive. Employment is expensive. Regulation is expensive. Government is making everything more expensive.’ The Conservatives Party leader said.
Badenoch alleged that the shortfalls from the bus fare reduction will be recovered through higher taxes elsewhere.
‘What Andy Burnham has done is that he cut one price and send the bill somewhere else.
‘But somewhere else is always someone else- a taxpayer, a business, a family. Someone will pay and they will pay in higher taxes.’ She said.
Badenoch demanded that Burnham inform the public who will pay for the bus fare reduction deficits.
‘Andy Burnham needs to tell us who will pay for those taxes. And if he won’t, we should assume it will be the same people Labour always turn to when the sums don’t add up- working people, businesses, the people who gets up early and take risks to build something.’ She held.
