Man Arraigned over Alleged Stealing of N2.2m Church Property

The police on Friday arraigned a 49-year-old man, Bode Olayiwola, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing church property valued at N2.2 million.

Olayiwola is standing trial on a charge of theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on July 15 at about 2.00 a.m. at the Church of the Lord, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Owolabi alleged that the defendant stole a generator, fans, an amplifier, car batteries and other items valued at N2.2 millon and belonging to the church.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 7 for hearing. NAN
