The 2027 African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has mourned the demise of Dame Mary Amaechi, the mother of his running mate and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
NPO Reported that the matriarch passed away on Thursday at the age of 89.
Reacting to the news of her demise in a statement issued on his X handle, Atiku expressed his condolences to Amaechi.
The former Vice President hailed the deceased’s exemplary Christian life and selfless service.
He held that Nigeria remains indebted to her for raising Amaechi who he described as an outstanding statesman.
“I join the family, friends, and associates of His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi, our vice-presidential candidate in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in mourning the passing of his beloved mother, Mrs Mary Amaechi.
“I am told that she lived an exemplary Christian life marked by devotion to God, faithful worship, and selfless service to her community.
“She was a mother to all who crossed her path, and Nigeria remains deeply indebted to her memory for raising one of our outstanding statesmen and great patriots,” He wrote.
Atiku prayed for the repose of the late matriarch’s soul and comfort the family she left behind.
“His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation. I pray that God grants her beautiful soul eternal rest and comforts the family, friends, and loved ones she has left behind” He added.
