Former Big Brother Naija housemate Leo DaSilva has advised Nigerians to consider making video wills, following the ongoing family dispute surrounding the late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
PrimeTimes reports that Alex Ekubo died in May 2026 after battling kidney cancer and was laid to rest in his hometown on June 18, 2026.
However, controversy erupted shortly after his burial when members of his biological mother’s family publicly accused the actor’s stepmother, who reportedly raised him from the age of seven, over the circumstances surrounding his death and why family members were allegedly prevented from seeing his body before burial.
The disagreement further escalated after Alex’s elder sister was alleged to have engaged a blogger to publish reports against the stepmother, whom the late actor had publicly acknowledged as his mother.
The development has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the role of Alex’s biological mother, who was said to have left him when he was seven years old but resurfaced after his death. Others speculated that the dispute may be connected to the sharing of the deceased actor’s estate.
Reacting to the controversy, Leo DaSilva stressed the importance of documenting one’s final wishes to prevent conflicts among surviving relatives.
According to him, sharing biological ties does not necessarily mean people have genuine relationships or good intentions toward one another.
He argued that video wills could help eliminate ambiguity by clearly expressing how a deceased person wishes their assets to be distributed.
“I wish people understand that blood relatives can still mean nothing in the grand scheme of things,” Leo wrote.
“They could be your enemies and they could actually not even be in your life.”
He further urged people to record video messages explaining how they want their properties shared after death to avoid unnecessary family disputes.
“This is why I always suggest video wills. Make a video of exactly what you expect after your death so that people don’t confuse your enemies for your family because of relation by blood,” he added.
Leo’s comments have generated conversations online about estate planning and inheritance, with many users agreeing that clear legal documentation can help prevent prolonged family conflicts after a person’s death.
This is not the first time the reality TV star has spoken publicly about preparing for the future. In February 2025, Leo revealed that he intended to prepare his children for the possibility of his death, emphasising the importance of planning and ensuring loved ones understand one’s wishes.
The ongoing dispute within Alex Ekubo’s family has continued to attract public attention, with many calling for an amicable resolution while highlighting the need for proper estate planning to avoid similar conflicts.
