The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has debunked reports alleging a second building collapse around Alakija Bus-stop in Satellite Town area of the state.
Barely a week after the collapse of a two-storey building which claimed the lives of nine people with 27 other trapped victims rescued, a fresh report circulating on social media claimed that another building has collapsed in the area
Reacting to the claim in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olurefemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA described the reports as untrue and fabricated.
Oke-Osanyitolu said that following the receipt of the information, the agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location.
After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found.
The LASEMA boss urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it, stressing that the circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts and may delay response to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk.
“The Agency appreciates the vigilance of Lagosians and encourages the public to continue reporting emergencies through the appropriate channels while allowing first responders to verify incidents before information is widely circulated”.
