The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State branch, Toba Ajiboye, better known as Ijaya, has died after yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked and shot him in Lagos.
He was reportedly returning home on Sunday night from his childhood community in Fadeyi when the assailants struck.
According to reports, the gunmen intercepted him around the Ikorodu Road axis and opened fire at his vehicle, leaving it riddled with bullet holes.
Initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack but sustained gunshot wounds. However, subsequent reports claimed that the union official later died from his injuries.

Reacting to the incident, Lagos NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, aka Sego, expressed grief over Ajiboye’s death, describing him as a loyal ally and trusted friend.
In a tribute posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, he wrote: “The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally.”
Sego further described the late union leader as “more than an ally”, saying he remained a pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation.
The Lagos NURTW boss also extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and members of the NURTW.
