Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betraying the people of the state, alleging that the governor failed to communicate openly with those who supported him during the political crisis in Rivers.
Ewor made the remarks while featuring on The Morning Show on Arise Television, where he criticised Fubara’s leadership style and claimed the governor’s lack of transparency misled many Rivers residents into believing that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was responsible for the challenges facing the state government.
According to him, many political stakeholders, including himself, publicly criticised Wike based on what they believed was interference in Fubara’s administration.
it was himself that betrayed the people of Rivers. If Fubara had been open, transparent, and communicated with the people of Rivers, I don’t think the women would have taken to the streets.
“I don’t think our leaders would have given him the level of support they did, including myself,” Ewor said.
The former PDP acting chairman admitted that he had previously directed strong criticism at the FCT minister because he believed Wike was preventing Fubara from effectively governing the state.
“I said several unprintable words against the FCT Minister believing that he was stopping Fubara from doing his work but at the end of the day, we discovered that it wasn’t so,” he stated.
Ewor maintained that Fubara has continued to withhold important information from the people of Rivers State, arguing that greater openness would have prevented many supporters from taking political risks on his behalf.
“Fubara is not open, up till now he is still not open. If he tells Rivers people this is where I stand, they won’t take all the risk they have taken, but he has let Rivers people know where,” he said.
He also welcomed the governor’s decision to align with the Rainbow Coalition, describing it as a return to the political platform supported by many stakeholders in the state.
“I thank God that he has led Rivers people back to the Rainbow Coalition,” Ewor added.
