According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Boko Haram has reportedly released an obituary video honouring one of its senior media operatives, Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was killed during a failed attack on a Nigerian military position in Borno State.
The three-minute, three-second video, which surfaced on Wednesday, is believed to have been produced by the terrorist group to commemorate al-Barnawi, who reportedly served as one of its principal cameramen and propaganda operatives. The footage, narrated in Arabic, shows him operating camera equipment and documenting several of the group’s activities before his death.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed the development by sharing the video on Wednesday.
