The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the ban of the National Union of Road Transport Workers’, NURTW, activities across the state.
Adeleke gave the order during a Security Council Meeting held on Thursday in Osogbo, the state’s capital city.
As contained in a statement issued by the Osun Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor directed the Osun Police Command and other security agencies to end all the union’s activities in all motor parks across the state.
Adeleke, according to Alimi, gave the directive in a to address the current security situation in the state and bring sanity to the motor parks.
The commissioner held that the governor’s order will put a stop to collection of all levies by the NURTW officials.
Adeleke, as quoted in the statement, further directed the Police and other security agents to arrest anybody that is parading himself as official/Executive of the union in any of our park.
“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state.
“I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union in our parks.
“Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace.” The governor said.
Adeleke also direct immediate establishment of the Rapid Response squad which will consist of all the security agents in the state that will ensure the compliance with the directive.
In response, all the Security Commanders present assured the governor of strict compliance with the order.
Officials in attendance at the meeting include Police, both from the State Command and Zone 11, representatives of DSS, Army, Air Force Navy, Civil Defense, NDLEA, Immigration, Correctional Service, FRSC, NAPTIP, WNSN -AMOTEKUN, the Deputy Governor, the COS, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
