The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has blamed the recent surge in kidnapping, banditry, and other terrorist activities in Nigeria on the desperation of politicians vying for positions in the forthcoming general elections.
He made this known on Thursday while speaking during the flagging-off of a road project in Gombe State.
He noted that it has now become the norm for insecurity to rise during the build-up to general elections.

Addressing the crowd at the event, Umahi said: “Security should not be politicised. It should not be weaponised. Why is it that anytime we are trying to have an election, there is heightened insecurity?
“This is very concerning because if anybody takes the life of others under any guise, God is watching, and God is going to pay them back.”
While alleging that politicians are politicising the security situation to grab power in 2027, he noted that God will resist the move and ensure they fail.
“If anybody has a hand in insecurity because they want power, God will resist such a person,” the former governor of Ebonyi State added.
Umahi further assured Nigerians that this phase will pass and normalcy will be restored, adding: “So we stand with the President, we pray for him, and we work with him.”
