The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed not to reveal his plan in tackling insecurity in Nigeria if elected president.
Obi made the vow while speaking on Nevon Media Podcast show hosted by ace broadcaster, Oseni Rufai, on Tuesday.
Oseni had in the interview asked the former Anambra state governor on his likely course of action if he were to be President Bola Tinubu with the current spate of insecurity and abductions.
Reacting in a clip of the interview shared on X, Obi held that he will rather show commitment in tackling the challenge than revealing his plan.
“I will not tell you. But be rest assured. Nigerians are not asking that. It is people who don’t know what to do. I fought criminality in Anambra State, go and as people, head-on.
“You must show commitment. Commitment solves problem of everybody.” He said.
On whether Tinubu is not committed to solving the insecurity challenge, Obi claimed complicity in the president’s approach as he recounted how he tackled insecurity during his time as Anambra state governor.
“There is a complicity somewhere.
“When you come in, you will deal with it. I’ve done it in the past. Go and ask people in Anambra.
“When I came into Anambra, even the foremost kidnapper, Evan, said I sent them out of the state.
“Go and check his interview. He said Peter Obi sent us out of Anambra state. Everybody left. It is one government. It is either I’m in charge of they are in charge.” He said.
Obi however expressed readiness to declare war on insecurity if the need arises, stressing that non-state actors cannot thrive under his administration.
“One person must be in charge. We declare war. If you are ready to live, you must be ready to die. You are not ready to die, go home.
“Tomorrow, if I’m outside this country and there is war, I will come back. I’m a Nigerian. I’ve never had any reason to have any country’s passport.
“I lived in abroad for years and I’ve never taken any different passport. God created me a Nigeria and I’m ready to die here.
“It is one country. We cannot have some non-state actors take over the state. It is not possible. We used to have military that keep peace all over the world.” He said.
The NDC Presidential candidate’s statement had since sparked mixed reactions with some netizens defending his decision to keep his plan on insecurity secret while others faulted the decision.
“He needs to put down some details, must everybody go to Anambra to confirm his past? I believe all of them know what’s happening in that security sector. Tinubu promised to tackle insecurity, but look at Akpabio saying insecurity didn’t start from Tinubu. JSYK the same might hapn”@UAgila70765
“This werey when he was governor crime rate grew like mad, kidnapping everywhere , Dr Chudi Nwike who served as the state former deputy governor was kidnapped and murdered during peter obi Tenure.”@hrh_olumide
“If he doesn’t has anything to say why did he granted the interview, every time he replied with forget about this, I won’t tell you that, I won’t say anything about this….If you have nothing upstairs don’t even try to dreaming of Asorock.”@drag0401
“Of course he will not tell you. No reasonable person will.”@Cryptinin
“You want to achieve something and you at unable to how you are going to do it? Always deviating from questions. To be honest this man is very dull. Deep down you guys know but since you want igbo presidency by all means, you have no choice than to package the option you.”@Mohammad Musa
“It is either i am in charge or they are in charge! GBAM”@JaksabbeyA
“Fun Fact: Under Peter Obi’s watch as Anambra Governor, an Ex-Deputy Governor of the State (1992-1993) Dr. Chudi Nwike was kidnapped and murdered by gunmen in 2013. even after ransom payment was paid to his kidnappers. Peter Obi was a mediocre Governor at best.”@AkinAdejola
“I have never seen Peter Obi as a senior presidential candidate, he is a weak man who we will be like Buhari we thought will be tough on security. Clearly Peter Obi has no solution for the insecurity going on if he becomes president.”@oluwa_samuel
“Wait! You guys really expect him to reveal in detail how he will deal with politicians who are complicit in the insecurity we’re facing? If na you, you go reveal your strategy?”@RayGoodison
“Anybody that is serious about fighting insecurity will never reveal their plans because there are agents working to keep Nigeria like this. You can only win via element of surprise. If there are cabals you plan to kill, you cannot let them know that.”@Anthony_Nigeria
