Nigerian gospel singer, Adeyinka Alaseyori, has tendered a public apology following backlash over her comment on the abducted Oyo school teachers and students.
Alaseyori had yesterday come under fire over a video where she called for prayers for the rescue of the children and their teachers.
As seen in the video, the gospel artist talked down claims that prayer is not working.
She harped on the need for Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu and all government officials as she claimed that they are all working towards ensuring the safe rescue of the vicitms kidnapped at Ahoro-Esinele Community High School, Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A Primary school.
“So many people are saying the prayer they are praying is not working. But believe me, prayers are working. Don’t let anybody use you for politics. The point is we need to pray.
“From the first person, the President, to the last person in this country, we all need prayers. Every parastatals, every sectors, we all need prayers. Those children there are your children. They are my children.
“You can’t say tha the president are not doing what they have to do. They are working.
“You can’t say they are not working. Even the security personnel must have been close to the place to rescue the children but got hindered.” Alaseyori said.
This would spark public outrage with netizens slamming the singer over her call for prayers.
Some accused her of supporting the government.
Reacting to the backlash in a separate video shared on X on Wednesday, Alaseyori apologised to the aggrieved members of the public.
She maintained that she had no intention of downplaying Nigerians agitation for the release of the children.
The gospel singer pleaded forgiveness over the video.
“I did a video two days ago about one hour thirty minutes prayer for the kidnapped children.
“But when I woke up yesterday, I discovered that some well-meaning Nigerians are feeling offended because I made feel unseen or their voices not heard.
“You know me too well that I will never make anybody feel like that. I discovered that the video was cut from a one hour thirty minutes video.
“Please I beg all mothers in God’s name to please forgive me if I ever made you feel offended, unseen, or I spoke as if I was insensitive. I’m also a mother.” Alaseyori said.
