NDLEA Intercepts Opioid Consignment in Taraba, Arrests 75-Year-Old Drug Suspect in Ebonyi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted large consignments of opioids concealed in building materials in Taraba State and arrested a 75-year-old suspected drug dealer in Ebonyi State.

The operations, which spanned multiple states, also led to the arrest of several suspected traffickers, including four female drug dealers in Edo, Imo, Kano, and Gombe states.

A major breakthrough was recorded in Taraba State on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck transporting building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle at Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo and uncovered a large cache of illicit drugs hidden beneath the cargo.

A 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested during the operation.

Items recovered from the truck include: 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 tablets of Rohypnol, 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup

In Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 75-year-old man, Okebe Samuel, in Okposi for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

According to the agency, the suspect was found in possession of 300 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis, which he allegedly packaged and sold in retail quantities to youths within the community.

In Imo State, NDLEA officers raided a notorious drug hotspot in Umulolo, Orlu, leading to the arrest of 32-year-old Chioma Okeke, and the recovery of eight kilograms of skunk from the suspect.

At Uyosa, Benin City, operatives arrested Chioma Igba, 24, and Precious Ozomah, 22, with various illicit substances, including: 176 grams of skunk, 65 grams of Loud, 5 grams of methamphetamine

In a separate operation along Agbor Road, officers apprehended Anita Abraham, 21, who was found with 95 grams of Scottish Loud and 329 grams of regular Loud.

Another suspect, Henry Okey, 43, was arrested at Upper Mission, Benin City, with a cache of psychotropic substances, including Loud, Colorado, Swinol, and methamphetamine.

In Kano State, NDLEA operatives arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan during a raid in the Kafi area of Madobi on June 4.

The suspect was caught with 40 blocks of skunk weighing a total of 38 kilograms.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, operatives intercepted 28-year-old Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi near Dantiti Plaza in the Tumfure area on June 1.

The suspect was arrested with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.
