Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has suggested that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State government might have orchestrated the recent school kidnapping to embarrass President Bola Tinubu.
He levelled the allegation on Monday evening while appearing as a guest on the Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’.
Fayose’s comments followed the kidnapping of pupils and teachers by gunmen at primary schools in certain local government areas of Oyo State.
The incident drew national attention and prompted a response from the Federal Government, which dispatched a high-powered delegation that promised to ensure the safe return of those abducted.
However, reacting to the development, Fayose questioned the response of the Oyo State Government to the incident and suggested that political considerations may have influenced its handling.

He further argued that state governments bear primary responsibility for local security challenges and that attention should not immediately shift to the president.
Speaking during the interview, Fayose said: “Let me branch to Oyo State. Before you get to the president in the hierarchy of leadership and governance, there is local government, there is state; the state has security votes and there are people who are supposed to be working.
“In Oyo State, I strongly believe—though I might be wrong—but this sometimes might be orchestrated. The governor of Oyo State had his nomination and that of his candidates in the face of this abduction.
“He did not take any action, no steps were taken; it was after those nominations that he went to the families to visit them.
“I sometimes believe that the abduction at the Oyo school was orchestrated by the Oyo State Government to blackmail President Tinubu.”
