Family, friends, and associates of late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, have on Wednesday converged in Lagos to mourn the deceased actor.
NPO Reported that the 40-year-old actor passed away last month after prolonged battle with cancer.
His demise threw the Nollywood industry into another state of mourning as tributes flew from colleagues, fans, and admirers of the late actor.
Ekubo, according to his family’s statement, passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after suffering complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The burial rites of the late actor commenced on Wednesdsy with Service of Songs held at Monarch Event Centre in Lekki area of Lagos.
The event attracted several Nollywood stars and prominent personalties in the entertainment industry who came to pay their tribute to the late Ekubo.
Some of the personalites include Ekubo’s best friend and fellow actor, IK Ogbonna, Ebuka Obi, Ruth Kadiri, Nancy Isime, and Shaffy Bello.
Also in attendance at the event are Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Ayo Makun, Blessing Nkechi, and Ini Edo amongst others.
In a heartfelt tribute delivered during the service, IK Ogbonna reminscened on his time together with the late Ekubo.
He recalled how he often encouraged him whenever they were together.
“He will always say Ogboe, don’t worry I gat you and those words never changed. Even in our last conversation, you still told me the same thing. ‘Always remember that I am here for you even if no one else is.’
“He also kept telling me Oboe, get closer to God. Sometimes I will try to explain to Alex how close I am to God.
“Sometimes I and God have different kind of relationship. But come the next Eke market day, same advice.
“That was Alex always looking out for those he loved.
“We had fights but we have more good times together. Sometimes he will call me and say Oga go and get yout Visa, anything can come up.
“But me Mr. Last Minute, I won’t get the Visa until the call.” IK Ogbonna said.
Other associates and friends of Ekubo also paid tribute to the late actor with Ayo Makun describing him as the life of the party.
“He is the life of the party. I said ‘is’ because I believe he is still here with us.” The comedian and movie producer said.
Ekubo’s sister-in-law, in her tribute, described the late actor as a special breed.
“Anwuli is a special breed and we were very particular about the man she ended up with. But we knew ikenna was the one when he came forth.” She said.
