The Ebonyi state basketball court has be officially declared open, named after the Hon. Commissioner for Youth development and Sports,Hon.Richard Idike this was officially declared during the flag off of 2026 South East regional basketball tournament competition ceremony at the Ebonyi state basketball court in Abakaliki the state Capital, for the five states in the southeast region, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo state.
The Chairman, Ebonyi state Basketball Association, Very Rev. Fr. Obododike Maximus in his address, welcomed all members of Baseball teams that came in mass from their various states to Ebonyi state in participating for this year 2026 basketball competition also for the official opening of the basketball court named after the present Ebonyi State Hon. Commissioner for youth development and sports Hon. Richard Idike, adding that “the Commissioner who’s dedication to our Community and passion for basketball have been truly Inspiring. His vision for a better and Stronger basketball culture in Ebonyi State has brought us to this moment”
The Chairman also extended his gratitude to the Southeast Zone representative, Chief. Ugo Udezue who’s Commitment, dedication his vision, unwavering support and contribution made the occasion a reality.
The Hon. Richard Idike on his part, Expressing his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi state Rt.Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for giving him the privilege as the Hon. Commissioner he also thank the Leadership of the Nigeria basketball Federation, Distinguished guests, Sports administrators, Coaches, officials, athletes supporters of basketball a cross the Southeast region and beyond who are present in the State to mark the historic moment for our dear State Ebonyi, hosting this year 2026 Southeast region basketball competition for the very first time in the history of basketball tournament in Nigeria and beyond.
