Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has condoled with the Nigerian military and the police over the killing of security personnel during a recent attack in Yobe State.
Obi’s condolence message was contained in a statement posted on his official social media page.
According to the statement, the former governor mourned the death of 17 police officers and an unspecified number of soldiers reportedly killed during an attack on a military school in the state.
Obi described the incident as a national tragedy, saying the killing of security operatives continued to leave families and communities in pain.
He said, “Every security personnel killed is a tragedy to our nation. Every fallen officer represents a family thrown into grief.”
The former governor said the sacrifices of security personnel must not be treated lightly, especially when they lose their lives in the line of duty.
Obi called on the Federal Government to provide compensation, support and long-term welfare for the families of the slain officers.
He said the country owed fallen security personnel and their families a duty of care, given the risks they take to protect lives and maintain peace.
The former governor also called for urgent steps to address insecurity across the country.
He urged authorities to confront the situation with sincerity, professionalism and political will.
Obi added, “To the families of the fallen heroes, I offer my deepest and most heartfelt sympathies.”
