The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has described its primary election as peaceful, even as protests emerged in parts of the state over candidate endorsement.
The South-west Zonal Secretary of the party and Chairman of the monitoring and supervising committee, Aluko Alfred, said the exercise was conducted without disruption across the state.
Alfred, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Osogbo, noted that reports from various locations indicated a smooth process.
He said, “The primary election held across Osun State was hitch free. Reports from the field showed that the exercise was conducted peacefully.”
Alfred added that the committee was impressed by the level of cooperation received from party leaders and members during the exercise.
“We commend the leadership and members of the party in the state for their cooperation, which contributed to the success recorded,” he stated.
Similarly, the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee in Osun State, Bayo Ayo, praised members for their orderly conduct.
Ayo said, “Members of the party conducted themselves peacefully, and the process has been largely successful across the state.”
He added that collation of results was ongoing, assuring that the final outcome would be announced in due course.
“Results of the exercise are gradually coming in, and the final outcome will be made known to the public soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, some members of the party in Ijesa North Federal Constituency staged a protest against the endorsement of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Oluwole Oke, for the 2027 general election.
Oke, who also serves as Director General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, was reportedly endorsed by party leadership, a move that triggered discontent among some stakeholders.
The protesters, who gathered in the constituency, carried placards with various inscriptions to express their opposition to the endorsement.
One of the protesters, who carved anonymity, said it should be the turn of Oriade local government area to produce the next federal lawmaker.
The demonstrators insisted that Oke, who hails from Esa-Oke in Obokun local government area, should step aside to allow a candidate from Oriade to contest the seat.
