The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated maritime workers nationwide on the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
The message was conveyed through his special adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, and made available to the media in Lagos on Friday.
“Today, we celebrate the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of seafarers, dockworkers, port administrators, marine engineers, fishermen and regulators,” he said.
He added that the ministry recognised all stakeholders whose daily efforts sustained the lifeblood of the nation’s economy.
Oyetola reaffirmed that the maritime sector remained a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda, reflecting workers’ commitment and hard work.
He said the workforce had ensured smooth cargo movement, strengthened trade facilitation, enhanced port efficiency, and contributed significantly to national revenue.
“Your role in advancing the Blue Economy through sustainable resource management, innovation, and environmental stewardship cannot be overstated,” Oyetola said.
He said the Federal Government remained committed to improving working conditions, enhancing maritime security, and investing in modern port infrastructure.
The minister also pledged policies that would protect workers’ welfare and dignity across the sector.
He urged maritime workers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and excellence “as we collectively build a globally competitive maritime sector.” (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
