US to attack Iran again? White House on alert, Donald Trump cancels all trips, what exactly is happening

US President Donald Trump is “seriously considering” launching fresh military strikes against Iran if last-minute diplomatic efforts fail, according to a report cited by Axios and US officials. The situation has raised global concern as tensions between Washington and Tehran appear to be reaching a critical stage.

What happened in the high-level White House meeting?

The development came after Trump held an urgent meeting on Friday morning with top national security officials. The session included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and other senior advisers. Officials reviewed the current Iran conflict, ongoing negotiations, and possible military response scenarios if diplomacy collapses.

Reports claim Trump was briefed on multiple contingency plans. Soon after the meeting, the White House changed his weekend schedule. Instead of staying at his Bedminster Golf Club after a planned speech in New York, he will return to Washington, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Are peace talks still alive or collapsing?

Diplomatic efforts are still ongoing but are described as fragile and slow-moving. Pakistan’s military chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is currently in Tehran in a last-ditch mediation effort. A Qatari delegation has also arrived to support negotiations with Iran. Munir is expected to meet senior IRGC official Gen Ahmad Vahidi.

Officials say draft proposals are being exchanged daily, but no major progress has been made. A US official called the talks “agonising,” adding that there is still no clear breakthrough. A new US proposal, described as a final offer, is also under Iranian review.

Inside Iran, state-linked media confirm discussions are continuing but say no agreement is close. Meanwhile, intelligence reports suggest Iran is rebuilding parts of its drone production system faster than expected.

Has Trump’s stance changed recently?

Reports suggest Trump’s mood has shifted from cautious patience to growing impatience. While he earlier considered giving diplomacy more time, he is now reportedly leaning toward military action if no progress is made soon. However, officials also say a final decision has not yet been taken.
