The United States Department of State has announced the activation of a comprehensive emergency response plan following the outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
The announcement was made in a statement shared on the official account of the U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs.
According to the statement, the Department of State activated its emergency response plan within 48 hours of the outbreak and immediately released an initial $13 million in foreign assistance to support urgent response operations.
The U.S. government also disclosed that it is relying on previously established humanitarian support systems coordinated through the United Nations to speed up the delivery of additional aid to the affected countries.
The statement noted that the intervention is aimed at improving response coordination and strengthening humanitarian assistance efforts in both countries.
“American leadership remains indispensable in confronting global health threats,” the statement read.
