Trader jailed 28 months for stealing phone

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 21-year-old trader, George Dashin, to 18 months in prison for stealing an iPhone 12 Pro.

The convict, pleaded guilty to the charge of theft brought against him by the police.

The Magistrate, Mrs Hannatu Ashom, sentenced the convict to 18 months in prison with an option of N120,000 fine.

She said the sentence would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.

While reviewing the facts, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that officers attached to Area Command on May 4, rescued and arrested him where he was being beaten up on the street for stealing a phone from a shop.

Gokwat said the convict stole the iPhone valued at N500,000 before he was caught.

He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.NAN
