Shettima departs Abuja for Benin president’s inauguration

Vice president Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Cotonou, Republic of Benin, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Romuald Wadagni, the president-elect. 

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sunday, May 24, at the presidential palace in Cotonou.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, senior special assistant to the president on media and communications in the office of the vice president.

According to the statement, Shettima will join other African leaders and foreign dignitaries expected at the event.

Nkwocha noted that Nigeria and the Republic of Benin share long-standing historical, cultural and economic ties, with bilateral relations largely centred on border security, trade and energy cooperation.

He added that the vice president is accompanied by senior aides and top government officials and is expected back in Nigeria after the inauguration ceremony.
