Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, have on Thursday joined other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the state’s governorship primary election.
Sanwo-Olu and his wife arrived at Ward E3, Okepopo in Lagos Island, on Thursday morning to participate in the exercise.
Video shared on X by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, showed the couple raising their voters slip as demanded by the election coordinator who instructed supporters of the party’s governorship aspirant and current Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, to raise the slip.
With all other aspirants already withdrawing from the race prior to the election, Hamzat is poised to emerge as the APC’s consensus candidate to represent the party at the 2027 Governorship Election.
Sanwo-Olu backed his endorsement of Hamzat with his appearance at the Ward to further affirm his candidacy.
NPO Reported that the governor had last month endorsed his deputy as his successor.
Sanwo-Olu joined other prominent Lagos political leaders to have declared their support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition.
The governor, in his address at the endorsement ceremony held at the government office, declared Hamzat as the man fit for the job.
He highlighted Hamzat’s experience and working relationship with him over the past seven years.
Sanwo-Olu hailed his integrity, loyalty, commitment, and support which he considered as defining qualities of a right successor.
