Raped, not given food, shouted at and…: Shocking school abuse scandal rocks…, what exactly happened?

A massive child abuse scandal has shaken France after prosecutors began investigating more than 100 alleged cases of rape, violence and mistreatment involving school monitors in Paris schools and daycare centres. Authorities say children as young as three years old may have been sexually assaulted. The disturbing allegations include children being screamed at, denied food, physically abused and threatened. Several parents claim they had raised concerns for years, but their complaints were allegedly ignored until police launched a large-scale investigation earlier this year.

Children Allegedly Abused In Schools And Daycare Centres

Paris prosecutors said investigations are currently underway in 84 nursery schools, around 20 primary schools and nearly 10 daycare centres across the city. Between January and April this year, Paris authorities suspended 78 school monitors, including 31 suspected of sexual abuse.

According to reports, some children were allegedly raped inside school premises by adults responsible for supervising them during breaks, lunch hours and after-school activities. In one shocking case, a three-year-old boy reportedly became terrified of entering his school after allegedly being sexually assaulted by a school monitor. His family later discovered the reason behind his unusual behaviour.

Who Are School Monitors?

School monitors in France supervise children during daily school activities. Unlike teachers, they are often hired by local councils on temporary contracts and may not receive formal professional training. Critics say weak background checks and poor monitoring may have allowed abuse to continue unnoticed for years.

Parents and lawyers representing victims have accused authorities of failing to act despite repeated warnings. Reports also describe children being pushed, shouted at, denied meals or forced to eat until they became sick.

Paris Announces Emergency Response Plan

The scandal has triggered national outrage in France. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire announced a 20 million Euro emergency plan to reform the school monitor system and improve child safety measures.

Several court cases linked to the scandal are expected in the coming weeks, including trials involving school monitors accused of sexually abusing multiple children between the ages of three and ten.
