The Presidency has called for the arrest of Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over the circulation of allegedly fabricated audio of President Bola Tinubu.
VeryDarkMan had in a post shared on his X handle on Thursday played leaked audio clips alleged made by Tinubu.
The President had in the purported audio said he was unbothered about the insecurity in the country as he expressed optimism on securing his re-election.
Tinubu in the audio clips linked to him allegedly disclosed plan to borrow more fund from the World Bank to fund terrorism.
“They’ve been trying to take me out from the position, but it is not possible. And mind you, I’m winning this election. I don’t care whatever is happening.
“Nigeria deserves because when I was running as a president, they didn’t wanted me. Now all of a sudden, they want me to rescue them from insecurity.
“As of last week, I called Peter Obi to step down for me but he refused. I’m not begging him again. I will be whatsoever in my mind and I will make sure the insecurity affects people in South East more.
“Listen, I am going to borrow more and more money from World Bank. Try to understand me, I won’t try to stop this insecurity because if I do, how will our party be able to raise funds to win election. Think about it. Even the loans I’m taking is to fund them.” The voice alleged to be the presidents said in the clips.
Reacting to the post, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, called for the arrest and prosecution of VDM as he labelled the audo fake.
Onanuga made the call in a statement issued on his official X handle on Wednesday.
The presidential aide slammed the activist over what he considered as egregious abuse of social media platform.
“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu.
“This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.” He wrote.
