The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed reports alleging that a court order stopped sittings on environmental services and food safety enforcement in the territory.
Barr. Idris Suleiman, the FCTA Public Health Department Legal Officer, described the circulating court order as “false in its entirety and completely misinterpreted”.
Suleiman, in a statement issued on Wednesday, explained that the order was granted by Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court in Motion No. M/7935/2026.
According to the department, the suit filed by H-Medix Pharmacy Limited against the FCTA Health and Human Services Secretariat and six others only restrained further sittings in matters involving the applicant.
“The ruling did not suspend or halt the overall enforcement activities of the Public Health Department”.
It urged residents and business owners to disregard claims suggesting a blanket suspension of environmental health enforcement and food safety court sittings in the FCT.
“The department remains committed to ensuring public safety by upholding the highest environmental and public health standards and ensuring compliance with these standards,” the statement said.
It added that its offices remained open and that court sittings for prosecution of defaulters were still ongoing.
