The Police Command in Lagos, says it has intensified security arrangements across the state, following the Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations respectively, with massive deployment of personnel to strategic locations.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi on Wednesday in Lagos.
Tijani said the deployment was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, to ensure adequate security at Eid prayer grounds, recreation centres and other vulnerable points, during the festive period.
According to him, police operatives have been deployed to worship centres, highways, motor parks, recreation centres, critical infrastructures, linking roads, exit routes and other strategic locations across the state, to guarantee safety of lives and property.
The commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, Police Mobile Force personnel and Counter Terrorism Units, to intensify visibility policing and strengthen anti-crime patrols across the state.
Also listed for the directive are the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear operatives, as well as traffic officers.
Tijani also ordered officers to ensure effective crowd management and free flow of traffic throughout the period of celebrations, while strengthening security along entry and exit points, highways and city centres across the state.
He warned police personnel deployed for the operation to remain professional, civil and courteous in the discharge of their lawful duties.
The commissioner felicitated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and wished them a peaceful, joyous and crime-free festivity.
He also extended warm greetings to children across the state on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, which coincided with the Sallah festivities.
Tijani advised children and youths to shun violence, and criminality, urging them to embrace positive values and remain security conscious at all times.
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities within their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station.
The police boss also appealed to travellers and motorists to cooperate with security operatives deployed across highways and other duty posts, so as to ensure an orderly celebration across the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
