The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) Abia Command has deployed 670 personnel across the state to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
According to a statement issued by CSC Ndukwe Egwu, Head, Media and Public Relations on Wednesday, the State Commandant, CC Chukwuemeka Odimba, announced the deployment at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia.
Odimba reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in Abia during and after the festive period.
He commended officers and men for their dedication to duty, which he said, had helped sustain relative peace in the state.
Odimba urged them to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering.
He emphasised that preventive and proactive security measures must remain a priority.
“These 670 personnel were drawn from the Command’s Tactical Teams, Special Forces, Anti-Vandalism Unit, and the newly rejigged Rapid Response Squad (RRS),” Odimba stated.
“Special provisions have also been made for Very Important Personalities (VIP) visiting the state for the celebration through the VIP Unit.”
He noted that personnel have been strategically posted to Eid prayer grounds, worship centre, recreational facilities, and event venues across the state.
The NSCDC boss charged deployed officers to work in synergy with other security agencies and to discharge their duties with patriotism and professionalism.
He warned that any act of misconduct would attract severe sanctions.
Odimba further called on residents to remain vigilant, obey the law, and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest NSCDC office or other security agencies.
He extended his wishes for a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration to Muslim faithful in Abia and across Nigeria.(NAN)( www.nannews.ng)
