The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has described the exit of two former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from the party as a glitch.
PrimeTimes Nigeria recalls that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso recently defected from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal political wranglings and court cases as reasons.
Speaking on Wednesday, during an interview on ARISE Television’s ‘Morning Show’, Abdullahi said the ADC has moved on from the exit of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso.
The ADC spokesman maintained that the party’s objectives remain the same: “stopping the steady deterioration of governance in the country and strengthening multi-party democracy”.
He said, “Peter Obi and Kwankwaso moving from the ADC was a glitch. We have moved on from it.
“We have stabilised and moved forward because the objective remains the same, stopping the steady deterioration of governance in the country and strengthening multi-party democracy.
“While some have moved to other parties and others remain in ADC, the broader vision of building a strong opposition coalition is still very much alive within the current political dynamics.”
Meanwhile, the member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Obika, has said his decision to join the NDC was influenced by the political direction of Peter Obi.
Obika, who won his seat in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, said he remained in the party despite its prolonged internal crisis because of his loyalty to Obi and belief in his leadership.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the lawmaker defended his recent political realignment and urged opposition politicians to work together ahead of future elections.
