A fresh crisis is brewing within the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) following allegations that the party’s nomination process for the 2027 elections may have been compromised.
Party sources alleged that nomination forms were being reserved for loyalists of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Governor Bala Mohammed, who recently joined the party.
According to sources within the party, only aspirants considered loyal to the two governors were allegedly granted access to nomination forms, leaving out other interested contenders.
An aggrieved aspirant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused party authorities of deliberately frustrating efforts by some aspirants to participate in the process.
According to Leadership, the source claimed that repeated attempts to obtain forms were ignored without explanation.
Efforts to obtain a response from the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, were unsuccessful as calls and a text message sent to him were not replied as of the time of filing this report.
While Bala Mohammed has reportedly completed his defection to the party, Makinde is expected to formally join the APM and declare his presidential ambition on Thursday.
The development is believed to have intensified internal political alignments within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sources also alleged that the situation was worsened by the party’s slow membership registration process, which was said to be largely manual and controlled by a small circle of officials.
It was gathered that several new members had been unable to verify their membership status or access party credentials.
Some disgruntled aspirants insisted that despite meeting all necessary requirements, they were deliberately shut out of the process.
They described the alleged arrangement as calculated, exclusionary and capable of deepening division within the party.
